Our show this year was the fabulous We Will Rock You. It was held in Y Ffwrnes Theatre in July 2014.
It was a fantastic event and all the pupils who took part were outstanding. It was a busy week in the theatre, but the new facilities are amazing and the theatre staff were great.
Monday. This was the 'get in', where we had to get the set and props etc. into the theatre and erected. Many thanks to Mr. Jenkins for building us the gates! The backstage crew worked really hard, and we set up the backdrop projector and tested all the systems. The band was set up and the pit was lowered ready for rehearsals.
Tuesday. A day of rehearsing. The backstage crew ran technical rehearsals, and then we rehearsed with the cast. A few blips were soon ironed out and we had a complete run through. The highlight of the day was when Mr. Jenkins delivered a motorbike to the stage! He had scrounged it from a garage! We needed to tweak the script a bit because there was no engine, but it all worked out really well.
Wednesday. The first show! The primary matinee was first. It went really well and the pupils were amazed! Then a few hours off before the evening performance. The cast arrived in plenty of time and there were plenty of nervous and excited faces. It got to 7.00 and we were off! It was a great performance; the cast were fantastic and the band played really well. It's always a relief to get the opening night over with!
Thursday. Unfortunately, due to industrial action the theatre was forced to close. We didn't let it get us down, though, and we were all really looking forward to the next performance.
Friday. Another matinee. I was worried that having a day off would affect concentration, but our pupils were even more determined to put on a good show. Flawless performances from everyone, and the primary pupils were amazed! A few hours to rest before the final performance. The cast arrived in plenty of time and there were a few tears because it was the last performance. Everybody kept their focus and the performance was outstanding. The pupils were rewarded with a standing ovation! After the speeches the audience left and we stayed on to 'crash' the set. This was done in record time and a big 'thank you' goes out to all who lent a hand.
All in all this was a fabulous experience for our pupils. All the hard work in rehearsals really paid off, and we produced 4 outstanding performances. All cast members were great, and the backstage crew were flawless all week. A huge 'thank you' to all who took part!
